10 Ways to Spring Clean Your Social Media

By Noelle Fox | Content Marketing, Social Media | Comments are Closed | 2 May, 2016 | 0

It’s that time of the year when the winter clothes are put away, the cleaning supplies come out and reorganizing and de-cluttering begins. Yes, spring cleaning is upon us!

This is also a good time to spruce up your organization’s social media pages. Kick off spring cleaning by checking these 10 “cleaning” chores off your list.

    1. Review employee permissions and admin rights

Employees come and go and take on different roles. If you haven’t updated your admin rights to your accounts, there could be people who have access to them who shouldn’t. It’s best to update the admin rights periodically to keep your Facebook page safe from a disgruntled ex-employee.

    2. Update passwords

It’s always a good idea to update your passwords periodically to prevent being hacked. Keep your passwords long, avoid common names and include a combination of numbers and symbols.

    3. Refresh photos

When is the last time you changed the profile picture or cover photo on your social media accounts? If you can’t remember, then it’s time for a refresh. Make sure your image fits the required dimensions and is high quality.

    4. Verify your Twitter account

Have you noticed the blue badge on some Twitter accounts? This means the account is verified and that Twitter has authenticated your profile as real. To learn more about getting verified on Twitter, visit the Twitter FAQ.

    5. Update contact info

This seems like a no brainer, but it’s still important to regularly check your contact info on your social media. Email addresses change, companies move, and updating it on social media can easily slip through the cracks. Look over your contact information just to be sure it’s current.

    6. Check your progress (insights)

If you launched a new campaign at the beginning of the year, now is a good time to check your progress. Plus, it’s always good to know your analytics so you can stay on track to reach your goals.

    7. Verify social links on your website

If you don’t have links to your social media accounts on your website, now is a good time to add them. Having these links on your website could generate more followers. If your website already has them, verify that they link to the right page. The last thing you want is a broken link to mess up your analytics data.

    8. Edit profile descriptions

Your “About Me” section is the place to share with your followers important things you want them to know about your company. The format is different for each social platform, so make sure to adapt your message appropriately.

    9. Check for brand consistency across all platforms

Your social media pages should reflect your company’s brand. Review your accounts and update any messaging that is not consistent with your company’s messaging and image.

    10. Follow/Unfollow accounts

Clean out your accounts by removing any inactive or spam accounts. Replace them with new accounts that relate your industry. Following new accounts can help increase your online presence.

    Happy cleaning!
